So This Is What a Zoo Feels Like

It's Fall Open House today. Part of the open house is a tour of the campus. Which includes the North Complex. Because freshmen have to live here.

The reason why that beginning is so choppy? It's fucking CHAOS. We have groups that are pretty much lining up to check out the one showroom we have, then the Commons, then whatever else they feel like sharing. The hilarious part is that they've pretty much all decided to show up at the exact same time.

Pretty much.

Then on top of people walking by constantly, we didn't have anyone covering the front desk from noon to 2pm. I also have desk shifts from 2-6pm on these weekends, but I'm on duty for this weekend, so technically I shouldn't be working the desk. But I am anyways. And I'm covering noon to 2. Soooo I get to work from 12-6pm. YAY MONEY!

But Hot Canadian Bacon should be rejoicing that he was gone this weekend, much as he didn't want to go because it means spending time with his family....save for his brother, 'cause he loves his brother, but he doesn't like his bro's girlfriend/fiancee/whatever the hell she is. Mostly he went for the family face time and to drink, lulz. BUT, thanks to these open house tours, eeeeeeeveryone has to walk past his door to go to the showroom. So yay for not being around to hear nothing but people and/or walking out of it to find a dozen people standing in front of his door. He already is nervous about the freshmen since he had four freshmen just stroll right in when he left the door open just a little once.

Also, he has a magazine waiting for him here. He's missing out on his Maxim. BAHAHAHAHA!

It's quieter now, at least. The last of the groups have gone by, but it's freaking cold outside and I'm glad I'm inside. :3

Sunday Come.....NOW

Sometimes people really frustrate me.

To start, my co-CA doesn't remember important things. Such as when I ask if he's available to walk the kids to the university center to the speaker dude that was there tonight. Really, I asked if you could, and even specified that I'm on duty and can't leave the complex--hence why I asked you. And you couldn't be bothered to remember that you actually had to work the front desk at that time? Sorry, but that's your problem now. I didn't even help with the initial paperwork, damn him. Then of course, when I'm constantly telling him the guys aren't voting, he doesn't bother to leave his room and see if he could hunt down any of the guys. Seriously?

Speaking of which, voting for 24 hour visitation was tonight. And my floor was SO fucking slow at getting people to vote, to the point that we barely got the minimum 90% of residents. Come on, freshmen, learn some responsibility here. We at least got 91% of kids to vote, and easily got 24 hour visitation and door decs, which means a LOT less stress for me. Other than the fact that kids will be around at all hours. :/

Plus Hot Canadian Bacon is in, well...Canada. Said he had a cousin's wedding, a second-cousin's wedding, and his mom's birthday to attend. So not only will it be extremely quiet Saturday afternoon, it shall be a boring few days coming up. Ugh.

Please Make It Stop...

This has not been a very good week. Which is understandable due to Sunday night's fiasco of meetings and crap, but it's like the shitstorm refuses to stop.

After Sunday's meetings, we finally had our second floor meeting Monday night. Which was a lot shorter than the first one, but still. We need to harass kids to get their roommate contracts and RCCs in or the entire floor won't vote. We can only hope that we get at least two kids interested in residence hall government or we lose any extra funding from RHGA. We're shit-deep in programming that we don't know what the hell we're doing, and so we're having an emergency meeting on that tonight at 9:30. I'm working the desk from midnight to 3am tonight, I'm going to be on duty from 6pm Thursday night until Monday, and I may end up missing out on meeting Robert Fuller after all.

Thanks to being on duty, I can't leave for much of anything, either. I have to find someone willing to cover for me for about an hour so that I can get in on the speaker that they're letting us use as an active program, heck yes...and of course, the speaker's at 7. 7 is the same time as the first public relations/advertising meeting that I want to check out. I've no idea if it's even worth it to go anymore, though. I'm losing motivation to care about fitting in the programming now, especially as I *think* I have to make signs for it ASAP.

Voting is on Thursday, and it's now Wednesday. And we STILL haven't gotten two of our roommate contracts in & one room was stupid and lost their RCCs. Saturday, when I so badly want to go meet Fuller, I have to work the front desk from 2 to 6. What other programming is going on? A football game. AT 4. Fantastic, it seems that the perfect time for programming shit and I'm on duty or working the front desk. Seriously.

Yesterday was not a great day overall. I was tired as hell from being up till 4 working on a paper. Brookney was having a shitty day and we didn't know how to make it better for her. Hot Canadian Bacon was what he called 'depressed' because of all the work he's got, on top of setting up programming, on top of cramming as much in before he has to leave for Canada on Thursday. If that wasn't bad enough, Laurel and I might've not helped matters when we told him a few of the residents found his happy-happy attitude a bit much....well, we used the word creepy. Then he heard the same thing from his best friend Chris. Sooo on top of his stress, he now has the goal of being more 'professional' for the freshmen and not scare them so much. Granted, I think most of it was the stress piling on, and the stress/migraines/lack of sleep meant he was losing steam with the craziness....but anyways.

And now we have girls on the far end that don't know how the fuck to throw out their own garbage. It's now gotten to the point that they're adding a bag a day in the hall, and it's pissing me off. Can we say overly sarcastic sign saying to take it out? :/

Just Say No to Stangers.

Ugh....I don't know where to start.

Well for one, I'm procrastinating majorly on a paper that's due at 5pm tonight. This isn't gonna be much fun. :/

This was the first weekend that I've had off since the beginning of CA training, which was apparently a little less than a month ago now? Holy crap, does time fly...and I really needed a couple nights off. Then again, I'm pretty sure I'm glad I took the weekend off due to the crap that went down.

My time at home was enjoyable, no doubt. I went carpet shopping for my dorm, and found a pretty nice 6x9 rug for a decent price. I almost bought one that had moose on it though, and it was TEMPTING. My hall director found it hilarious that people are willing to buy a rug with moose on it, and Hot Canadian Bacon said that I should've gotten it. But I didn't. :P

Saturday, our football team kicked ass. Literally. As in, our teeny program, which only recently joined Division 1 as of a year ago, went up against the Big 10 University of Minnesota Gophers. And we WON. 41-38! Seriously, it was an epic game, and regardless of how shitty the U of M has been, it's still huge for us.

However, there was one small downfall. Because we won such a huge game, it was inevitable that kids would go out and drink. We did in fact have one girl with alcohol poisoning, but the biggie was what they called a stranger assault in the freshmen complex. Where I am. Ohhhh yayyyyyy. :/

Again, those all happened Saturday night, when I was not only off but an hour away at home. So other than for the guilt of not being here, I am actually kind of glad that I had taken the weekend off...

Then because of the safety concerns, the Dean of Students and the assistant directors decided to have not only a CA meeting at 8pm, but two safety meetings for the freshmen buildings at 9 and 10. Which was all right, if not for the fact that at 8 we were having the Honors Association meeting.

Sorry to say, but the CA meeting took precedence over the association meeting. The girls may be pissed at me as it is, but the whole thing is a power struggle that I'm not going to get involved with. I'm not interested in debating to gain control over the bike share or t-shirts or anything else. But when it comes to CA stuff, I'm getting paid to do this job, and it's a hell of a lot more important than they realize. So I went to the CA meeting and did my CA duties. Ha!

The rest of the day was pretty much studying and/or socializing at the front desk. It was quite enjoyable as usual, even though by the end of the night I was giving up on reading and such. Then about once an hour Hot Canadian Bacon would come out of his apartment and hang with us, even though he should've been working on a paper of his own.

It was quite hilarious, however. Of the things that went down,

a) when someone commented that we were making fun of him (or something of the sort, it's a common occurrence), the first person he looked at was me. I called him out on profiling, then laughed. :3

b) He thought he was witty calling me the wicked witch of the Midwest.

c) He realized that I'm REALLY fucking small, as in learning that I'm not even over 100 lbs. He had to ask whether I was a size 0, which even though I wear size 3 jeans, I think I am closer to the smaller sizes....so then for about five minutes he couldn't get over the fact that he thought size 0 was just a myth, bahaha.

d) I had the chance to make a blow-up doll joke to him. He at least had a comeback for it, but it just made me giggle again. :3

e) He had to show off his battle scars from walking in the dark, tripped over his ethernet cord and smacked his head on the doorframe.

f) Rather than writing his paper, he put up pictures (and one effin' hilarious video) on Facebook. I made it known that I'm still holding a grudge that it's not his personal page and instead a 'student approved' one, but ah well. The weird thing was after the desk closed at 3, we all went separate ways and I had to check email and stuffs. Who's there on Facebook? Hot Canadian Bacon, bothering me to watch the video. /facepalm

Again, did I mention I spent most of the night at the front desk? As in from about 7pm to 3am. Lots of desk time, and I see him MUCH more than I do my own hall director....this is strange.

Random Things I Know About Hot Canadian Bacon

  • He's been in med school, law school, and is now in business school.
  • I lied. He was never in law school, but he is way too damn good at it. The reason he never went for law is because he doesn't like destroying lives. Even though he hates freshmen sometimes.
  • His undergrad degree is for marketing and something else.
  • He's played lacrosse, hockey, and soccer. I don't remember the others at the moment...
  • He went to the private college in Mitchell on a golfing scholarship. And he really likes golfing.
  • I lied again. He's nonplussed with golfing. Hates it at times, but he had to enjoy it at some point to get in on a scholarship.
  • Speaking of hockey, he's playing for USD's hockey team this year.
  • He has acting experience.
  • He has modeling experience.
  • The acting experience is a large part of how he has a strange gay voice and even stranger pedophile voice.
  • He not only looks kinda like John Mayer, but he looks like the male model on the cover of one of JR Ward's books. Leonardo DiCaprio is also on the list, as determined by a group of 4 psychotic freshmen that just walked into his apartment one day. Neeeeever leave your door open.
  • He's from the Toronto area, close enough to Quebec that he's pretty fluent in French.
  • His family's most definitely from England, and he can do a spot-on Irish accent.
  • Whenever the mention of caffeine comes up, he quotes Talladega Nights.
  • He sings to himself when he's in his office.
  • He really does say 'Eh' quite often...
  • His car is fucking sweet and metallic gray in color.
  • He loves the classy suits and is a total metrosexual, but not as much as the neighbor who obsesses over his shoelaces.
  • He's 25.
  • It's freaking hilarious when he's on three cups of coffee and nonstop energy drinks.
  • It's almost impossible to wake him up after 4 hours of sleep have passed.
  • His two requirements in women are that they're 18 and they're crazy.
  • However, he admitted once that as hot as he finds crazy women, it's not what he actually wants....pretty much.
  • He has to go gluten-free and is allergic to water.
  • His middle name is Kevin.
  • He actually has a record for indecent exposure....twice, I think. I wish I had been there to see it.
  • He handles his relationships the way he does hockey. He doesn't stretch it out, he just cuts it at the tendon.
  • Longest time he's gone without a relationship is 5 months. And counting.
  • He wants to stay in the US.
  • He's also convinced he'll end up deported before the end of the semester, either for a freshman accusing sexual harassment or his immigration papers not going through correctly.
  • Based on this list, he spends too damn much time at the front desk. As do I. >.>

Stupidity and Immaturity

I was up till 3 am Sunday morning because of duty. We had one room of assholes who didn't know to close the door when you have illegal alcohol in the dorms.

I was then woken up at 8:15 am because I felt like shit and I couldn't breathe from the shitty sinuses draining into my throat.

I spent a good majority of my day helping students establish an internet connection on a couple dozen computers (none of which used Vista, every damn one of them had Windows 7 on it), all because the IT desk was closed. Two other CAs and I volunteered to help them all, and I had a little fun with it.

I discovered not only will the kids ignore the fact that I asked them to clean up the packing boxes from the hallways, they ALSO decided that was the best place to leave McDonald's bags. In the fucking hallway. How old are these freshmen again?

I spend a good deal of time with the front desk also because I was fucking bored. Things are chillin', and then I look up and see a mouse running around inside one of the light panes. We got pictures. It was awesome.

I had my first serious duty experience tonight--and I wasn't even on duty. We were hanging out at the front desk, and someone came down because a roommate was having a seizure. Strangely enough, two of us chilling were CAs that weren't on duty, but we ran up there ASAP anyways. I even had to call the hall director and duty people to get there. Public Safety and EMS was pretty damn fast, they were. And then I had my first documentation to write up--with the help of our Canadian hall director who wanted to spell 'bystander' as 'bystandard'.

I am on the verge of ripping the kids on my floor a new one. They have no concept of responsibility--and when they easily could've, they didn't. They were not only belligerent to my fellow CAs, but they left new garbage that wasn't there before they cleaned up the shit. I won't feel bad at all of so few people show up for our first mandatory meeting and won't get to vote on 24 hour visitation. I love talking with the girls, but a good number of them were shitty at cleaning. I was glad the guys kept their side pretty clean, but they were belligerent and becoming more trouble than they're worth.

I cannot wait for classes to start when things should settle down. So far, the freshmen have proven to be a good number of assholes and ignorant children who can't take out their own garbage, let alone use their indoor voices.

FUCKING HELL

1:30 AM is an Active Time

So I have a tendency to pull late nights on a regular basis. Annnnnnd since I like showering before I go to bed, that means I usually shower very late, also.

Tonight I was able to have a little earlier shower, which actually meant a little before 1:20 AM. I finish up around 1:40, and just as I was going to enter my room, out comes one of our residents on the floor. His name is Gabe, which is irrelevant to this story, but it's my way of remembering it. It was actually quite convenient and hilarious at the same time. My delivery was probably a little strange since it was like "Hi, how're you doing?" and then.......blank. All I could think of was that it's around 1:30 in the morning, and I just stepped out of the shower, and he's still awake.

I ended up standing there talking with him a little. But it wasn't till we parted ways that I realized just how awkward I really probably looked to him. Not only had I just left the shower, but I had left in a pair of shorts and a zippered hoodie. Underneath that was a very old Daytona shirt with Dale Jr.'s #3 Oreo car on it, and is technically a boys' size 16 shirt. Awkward, but hell I was comfy and am ready to crawl into bed in a moment's notice. Yes!
