This has been a Twilight Zone night. I swear. From midnight to 1:30, it has been dead at the front desk. The most entertainment for me was watching Glee, which was actually kind of depressing. Get done with that, and I start working on French homework. I did have to call in a noise complaint because a couple girls said that they could hear someone's bass from second floor, so I had to call the CAs on duty to go check it out.
1:30 rolls around, and who's standing at the little window looking out from Beede? Hot Canadian Bacon. Both him and Chris had come out from his apartment, so I'm assuming they had some time off tonight. Which I'm not going to lie, HCB really needed some time away from school and work.
Speaking of that noise complaint, when Brookney and Jessie went up to investigate 2nd floor, there was no noise whatsoever. Can't pinpoint it at all, go back to first floor, and guess who it was really coming from....HCB's apartment. WTF?
Then after HCB came out of his apartment, he was standing by the pop machines chatting it up with some kids. Of course, I couldn't see who they were, but I knew when not only Brookney and Jessie left Beede, but Kacee and Sarah were also in on the social hour.....well that was weird.
And in an even stranger twist of events, when Chris left HCB's apartment, who was following behind him trying to hide? Michelle. Which meant that either she went out drinking tonight, orrrr....hmm. She was doing pretty good at nonchalant when she came back in though, so I'll have to see what I can get out of Sarah when they get back from their smoking break. >.>
Aha, she did indeed go out drinking. :P
Just to add to the messed up night, I was looking at pictures from my high school variety show rehearsals. Holy crap, they had some 10 teachers having a sword fight on the stage for a skit, the pictures alone were absolutely awesome!
Holy crap, will there be questions tomorrow, lol.

Heh
It didn't dawn on me until this morning. My supplier of Mexican Coke is the Canadian. Borders anyone? :3
I'm now debating about watching some soccer this afternoon before going to lab. Hmmm.
I'm now debating about watching some soccer this afternoon before going to lab. Hmmm.
Venting is Goooooood....
You know, I thought I'd start off with saying that I'm not usually one to complain, but I think I probably do. A lot more than I would admit to. But there is a couple things I want to get off my chest.
It's sad to admit, but at this time, I'm pretty sure everyone hates their job. I know I hate some parts of being a CA, I know many others are feeling stressed by it in some aspect or another, and Hot Canadian Bacon is so stressed to the max that people are rumoring that he's quitting. Which I know for a fact isn't true, because he can't afford it and has nowhere to go basically. Strange/harsh to put it that way, but it's true in a sense. The dorms are the hall directors' homes, and if they want or need a night off, it's nonexistent. Seriously. And I'm not going to lie, but in my opinion, HCB's got the shitty job of trying to juggle shit programming while managing graduate classes, tests, etc etc...and since he's in the graduate business program, it's double the pain. He's got to get either a B or higher in every class or he's out. Arguably, it's just as difficult as law school, if not more difficult. But what do I hear from Kristi about? How hard it is to last through two three-hour classes in a row. Yeah, it's annoying, but let's see you handle HCB's schedule. It's becoming apparent that grad school for adult and higher education isn't nearly as difficult as the business school is turning out to be. Oh yeah, you're also supervising desk work. Easiest job in the world to manage, considering how she doesn't spend half the time that HCB does out here at the desk.
Speaking of which, I turned in an effing time away request Monday night. It's now Wednesday morning, and I've yet to have her sign it. Where the hell was Kristi all of today that she couldn't check her mailbox and sign a tiny piece of paper?! >:/ If you're not going to check your mail regularly, don't give us crap about not getting posters up in a timely fashion...grawr.
My main qualm is the fact that the higher-ups, aka the directors of Student Services just don't know how crazy our schedules are as students as it is. I can gladly show them just how effin' busy my schedule is. I'm just about to believe that my schedule has finally settled down, and BAM we're informed by Kristi that they want us to have weekly dinners with our residents. BULLSHIT. I'm seriously getting sick of the emphasis on having a 'relationship' with our residents, when what they really want is for us to be every resident's best friend. As of now, I've done a pretty effective job of nearly cutting off all my friends from last year, save for when I spontaneously run into them somewhere. I just don't have the time to plan a date with my own friends, much less my residents. Let me put it this way.....
Honors Association is just as shitty as ever. I'm starting to believe no one has even considered tunnel tours this year, which has always been a moneymaker for us. Where's fundraising planning all this? Oh wait, it's not them, right now it's me that's brought up tunnel tours, and reminding them of exec elections, and everything else.......you know, I think that may be a program. Taking kids to tunnel tours. I think that released a small programming bug I've been having....phew. But that still doesn't help entirely, because this is HONORS Association.
There's my second point. I honestly spend a ridiculous amount of time with residents--it's just that not all of them live on MY floor. Because I'm in Honors, I'm friends and/or are familiar with many of Laurel's residents on 2nd Beede. Because I'm an Honors mentor, I've got mentees that not only live on 2nd Beede, but Kayla lives on 1st Mickelson. I've got friends that live on 4th Beede, 1st Olson, 1st Richardson, 3rd Beede...Essentially, I've met and befriended a ton of residents. But they don't technically live on my floor. And even though my residents say they love me, and I chat with them whenever I can, I feel like shit because I'm not able to say that I went to have dinner with them, or that I've done all these events with them, blah blah blah.
Shall I also mention that students are getting busier as the year goes on? To put it simply, even my friend Sarah in 1st Richie has noticed that kids are just so busy that even programs don't look as appealing. And when residents are noticing this, it's just a little bit ridiculous. But are they going to slack off on the programming requirements? Oh hell no. But they should.
Then to top it off, Jeff is leaving by the end of the month reportedly. He's most definitely leaving because of his wife's new job, but as to when, we're only speculating. HCB doesn't know the exact time of when, but I've heard the end of the month. Who knows. Then again, rumors are going effin' nuts this year, it seems. Particularly around HCB, which isn't fair to him. Basically, girls are having just a little too much fun trying to claim they've had a chance at HCB. Which is frustrating for him, because not only is he getting zero action, but he's discovered that his job puts him somewhere between the gray zone of student and staff. He's a staff member, so he can't go out and drink with students. But because he's a student, he can't do the same with staff. Supposedly. And supposedly, that also applies to dating. And simply put, that'd mean he wouldn't be able to date anyone affiliated with USD period. Which is why I say supposedly, because I find that extremely unlikely. Especially when another hall director Dan just now is in a relationship with another grad student, and it's no big deal. Other rumors included him deciding to quit. And even I'm getting tired of hearing the rumors, just because he doesn't deserve all the crap.
If any of them involved me, fuck me now. :/
Mehhh....HCB fed us Totino's again tonight. He also gave me and Dillon a couple bottles of Mexican Coke, because it's epic. Plus I mentioned that I loved the stuff, but can only ever find it at Ace Hardware. So he and hall director Trapper went to Sam's Club and bought a ton. :3
I had a test today, which went well I think. I got an 84 on my Astronomy test, which probably could've gone better. But oh well. I had a lovely conversation with Jeff in the university center about journalism, SDSU, his time at KELO and his experience with multimedia, etc etc. I'm also going to order my Alice costume as soon as I'm done with this post.
Which shall be now. :P

Dakota Days Recap Continued
Today's homemade food of the day: Twice baked potatoes with bacon. See? I ask for bacon, and I shall receive. It might've taken almost a day to deliver, but it did! :D
Also, I think I have a migraine today. But earlier no amount of closing my eyes and putting pressure on my forehead was making the pain go away. Owww....so I put in my contacts and have been wearing my sunglasses. Indoors. Because I'm fucking awesome like that, of course! ;)
Today was nice, I went to bed at 5am and woke up close to 1pm. I almost took a nap at 3, but the shit room 401 who can't take out their garbage had a lightbulb shatter. It was pretty crazy, mostly because it had broken a glass of orange juice too, so there was orange juice and glass everywhere. :/ I'd like to know where Tait was at this time, because seriously, I'm not good with cleaning up liquids and glass mixed together. Mehhh....
However, my floor likes to tell me I'm the greatest CA ever. I'm just too fucking lazy to tell them to shut up nonstop, particularly when no one has complained yet. If they start the running and bouncing balls again then I'll crack their ass, but since they're just naturally loud, I'm not going to rail on them constantly. They're not loud at 2 or 3 in the morning, so I'm content.
I can't think of anything else to say.....other than that I've yet to put up my door decs and bulletin board. The door decs are all right, I got the ok from Kristi to hold off on them until after Dakota Days since my floor has had issues with people writing GABE on them all and now setting them on fire.....oh I didn't mention that earlier? Oh yeah. They decided it'll be better to roast a door dec than a mashmallow. Fucking hell.....they really need to learn about who they bring around if they're bringing arsonists around. Damn.
Good thing Dakota Days is officially over, because this is the craziest weekend ever...It was hilarious and all, what with Sarah's brother visiting the front desk because he can't remember where he is, then chasing a cop car for three blocks only to trip and roll, followed by the cop coming out and yelling "Safe!", then the two kids from 3rd Beede dressed as Captain America and a strange variation of Batman running down the breezeway, then playing Uno with Hot Canadian Bacon and the rest of the kids, then the 24-year-old who had wandered in looking for a friend and was totally blacked out because he couldn't remember what he said 15 seconds ago, and his friends came down with one of my residents--oh that's an interesting story. This girl's name is Emily, and she was dating this guy Zach on 3rd Beede. She was most definitely with Zach that night. She then proceeded to stand at the front entrance of the complex and made out with this totally stranger dude. And I'm just watching going Holy shiiiiiiiiiit! Yeah, they're over with. :/
We also had epic conversations with Sam the DPS guy. He came in with his bike and hung out with us, and Kacee randomly asked him "Hey, do you have a beating stick?" So he takes it out and shows it to her, and she asked "Can I touch your beating stick?"
He not only said "It even extends," but he added "That was a really dirty question." And yes, he showed it extended and everything for us. We were laughing so hard that night, it was AMAZING.
I'm still waiting on ordering my Alice costume. If I get too impatient, I'm just ordering it from Amazon. :/

Duty Night in a Nutshell
1) Drunk people are amusing, but so fucking hard to understand. Either what they're saying doesn't make sense, or you can't understand because they're mumbling everything. Mostly it's that I don't understand what they're saying. Uhhh, why are you asking about how to get to the other dorm? What 'other dorm' are you asking about? The one that's attached by a hallway.....like, on the other side of the front desk? Or across the breezeway? Ohh, you want across from the front desk.....well you're fucked if you don't have a key or ID, because you can't backtrack through 1st floor, your only way out is through the back entrance right there, and only way back through the front doors and into the residence halls are if you have an ID....oops. Not our problem, man.
2) Being on duty with Brett isn't half bad, even if he doesn't really do anything. Watching season five of The Office with him is pretty damn epic! Even though we were watching the Winnipeg episode when we got the text saying we could pack it up and go back to our floors. I think it was the mixture of Canada references and three diet Dr Peppers that was causing me to giggle nonstop near the end. The line "Now get out of my nook! 'That's what she said that's what she said'!!!" moment had me giggling for at least five minutes there.
I take that back. Being on duty with Brett was actually really hilarious. On our first nonstop rounds hour, I had misstepped going up the stairs in Beede, and Brett wondered what I had taken to make me do that. I told him diet Dr Pepper, which was provided by Hot Canadian Bacon, so we joked that HCB had laced the drinks with something.
Then we were promised pizza at 10pm by HCB, which sounded so amazing. 10:30 comes, and no pizza. So we started texting him saying that we wanted food. After about 10 or 15 minutes of deliberation and giggling, our text came out like this:
Us: We'd like some pizza please sir! & bacon. Emphasis on bacon. & Brett wants a canadian stripper. But not you. But mostly bacon. :)
The rest of the conversation went in a similar fashion.
HCB: Ok putting it in right now but I'm the only cdn stripper I know :D
Us: Bahaha! Brett says you don't know enough canadian strippers apparently
HCB: Lol well there's only 7 of us lol
Us: I think that's the wrong kind of stripper you're talking about lol...& we think you laced the drinks with something, I tripped going up stairs on rounds
HCB: Lol sucks to be you!
Us: Bahaha!! Much rather be me with my giggling fits the past two nights & my awesomeness, pfft! & we're waiting on the bacon. :P
It kept on going from there, but no lie, it was Brett insisting on the bacon and strippers. There was also a Canadian bacon reference on The Office that had me giggling far too long, also. As for the number 7, I'm 98% positive that's a reference to his allergy to water or to gluten, it's one of the two. Or maybe he's one out of 11....meh, it'll come up again in conversation at some point. :/
Also, when he came to deliver the pizza to us, he suddenly remembered that he went to high school with a girl who became a stripper. Oh snap.
It's now closer to 5am than I'd like it to be. I was hoping I'd be able to fit in a shower by now, but that's not going to happen now. Mehhh...I've been at that point all night where I find everything giggle-worthy, or I'm so quiet it feels like I could just curl up somewhere and crash hardcore.
Speaking of which, someone decided they'd try and roast door decorations instead of marshmallows on my floor. Door decs. It was just the one, but one was enough for someone to catch him doing it, report it, and get it taken care of. The dude was booted from the dorms, nuff said. But I'm only mildly disappointed I didn't get to see it happen. Only mildly though, because I'd be scared to death if I'd had to have dealt with that on my own. :/
I'm still waiting on my chance to order my Alice costume. It's been sold out for a couple 2-3 days now for the small sizes, it should be available any day now... :(
Annnnd now the sleep has hit me hard. I'm going to go brush my teeth and crawl into bed. Yay for 5am! Gah.

Amg.
I'm officially doomed.
Not only did Hot Canadian Bacon feed me shrimp, asparagus, and white rice.....but I ate it.
And I avoid those foods with a passion.
And I LOVED IT. D:
Fuck. It's official, I'll eat anything HCB feeds me. Anything. But now my hands smell like shrimp, butter and garlic....damn you, awesome cooking skills!

CopyPasta
As of these past two days, I've not had a solid break time to just do nothing....gah. To put it in perspective, my Wednesday went something like this:
9-10am - Class
10-1 - Finally have some time to sleep
1-2 - Eat
2-3 - Class
3-4 - Door decorations due the next day
4-6 - Watch soccer game
6-7 - Lab
7-8 - Tom Brokaw
12-3am - Front desk
Then today went:
9-10 - Class
10-11 - Eat
11-3:15 - Class
3:15-4:30 - Do my part and get soda for the Honors Lounge
5-6:30 - Neuharth reception dinner
6:30-8:30 - Neuharth awards
8:30-11 - Doing more CA work because kids don't know basic manners...
12-3am - Front desk
Although, lots of these really do need to be explained. For instance, the soccer game. Totally didn't have to go, but Hot Canadian Bacon was playing, and it's kinda expected of him to do well....he actually did a lot better than I expected. It was really funny, for a while it was tied 2-2 and HCB thought that the game shouldn't have been that close. But there was one moment where they finally passed the ball to HCB, he's nearly tripped by another guy, and still manages to score. Whistle blows directly after to end the game. Coincidence much? I've no clue....but it was pretty awesome to watch! And plus we had three other CA staff members there, so it was nice just to watch them all play.
Then directly after my lab I went over to the MUC to listen to Tom Brokaw. I had just kinda wandered in, no clue really where to sit, so I just picked the very end of a row near the front. Turned out I was technically in the fifth row from the front, aka last row of reserved seating, and I didn't even have a ticket....but the lady standing right there let me stay, so it was pretty cool. And yes, Tom Brokaw was AMAZING to listen to!
Part of the reason why I had to say that I did my part with the soda was because I honestly don't know what else is actually getting done with Honors Association. They give me crap for not being able to respond to every damn email during the summer, but the past couple times I sent something to our HA president, she hasn't responded either. Not to mention I finally talked to her today face-to-face, and from the sounds of it they still have no idea what they're trying to organize. Seriously, I ask for them to make lists of who's in what committee, and they haven't bothered yet. I ask about elections and tunnel tours for Halloween that they did last year, and they haven't even thought about it. They can barely send out emails because we aren't using the actual HA email, we're going through Honors Program. So what have I done? Stocked the soda, and am now trying to get ahold of last year's president to ask about how to get tunnel tours started back up. Grrrrrrrr!
Not to mention someone decided to suggest Christina, Honors Association treasurer, to join our student advisory group with Dean Moen. I'm excited for advisory group to start back up, not so much with her, though. Speaking of people who won't keep up with HA goings-on, she said she'd take up on the lounge soda. Guess who isn't! Yayyyyyy... :/ Then on top of that, the meeting's on Monday at 4pm. Same day that I have staff meetings at 7. There's a Welcome Table dinner thing we're putting on at the community center. And Christina's got basically the same schedule between our meeting and sorority meetings. Knowing her, she'll try to fit in Welcome Table, and I just can't do that. So if anyone tries to give me crap about how she could do it, well I'm not going to make the mistake of pushing myself.
Once that was done I had to go to the reception dinner for the Neuharth award. A lot different from when they had Katie Couric, but most definitely for the better. I even got to shake Al Neuharth's hand! :D And I'd barely made it in too, I had to have Mr. Baldwin help get me in because I was a little past the sign-up deadline....but I can't help it that they've got Volante meetings the same time as my lab on Wednesdays, so I'm bound to miss out on some things. And I'm now assistant opinion editor, even though the job's not quite necessary. But our editor's Frank DePaula, and I don't know of many people who thought he'd be amazing at the job, lol. At least I'm there to help.
After that was the Neuharth award presentation deal, which was also very interesting. There was one row a couple rows up that had names on all the seats, the most reserved of the reserved seating. Well behind them was just more general reserved seating, so a couple friends from the Volante and such and I sat in the row right behind the names....so I was one row behind President Abbott and his wife on one side of me, and the other side Frank Vega's two sons. Vega was one of the award recipients. And the event was televised.....again. Soooo I'm pretty sure I ended up on SDPB tonight. I know they're repeating it Sunday at 1pm, so I'm going to talk myself into watching...but I'm scared. D:
Annnnd now on top of that, I've got new frustrations with trying to send emails about how I can't take on the Volante assignment for D-Days they gave me because I'm on duty every hour that's available, save for maybe two shifts that I'd have to fit in somewhere in my schedule. Not gonna happen sadly. :(
I'm not even going to try and get into the kids on my floor, I'd rather just forget about them sometimes....too much stress on top of everything else. :/
^ All of that was what I emailed to my mom (sans the use of HCB). The parents are getting pissed that I haven't been able to come back on the weekends, much less have the time for them to come down and visit me. But with everything that's going on, it's just too much sometimes. Then last night before I wrote the email, HCB was there for me to vent to about HA stuff. Which was nice of him to stand there and at least semi-pay attention, since he's got his own busy schedules. But as I told him, I'm starting to see how busy his schedule is and why he gets in a bad mood from it all. Grawr.
I really should go do work. Bulletin boards are due tonight and I haven't really started. I have an annotated bibliography due at midnight. HCB went Walmart shopping with Brookney about an hour ago for food, but as I'm about 95% sure that he seriously left at noon to make a quick stop at the bar before his duty officially starts.....well then. lol. But I really should work on the bulletin boards before it gets too late, plus I think Nikki's still working the Ritchie/O desk so I may not have to check out the programming room key. Yussssss....

Then today went:
9-10 - Class
10-11 - Eat
